Believing Is Seeing — Julian Siegelmann Exhibition

Julian Siegelmann wall sculpture installed at A.D.Deertz, Torstrasse Berlin — lacquered cardboard form with collaged surface in blue-grey tones, shown alongside folded shirts on a wooden shelf

Julian came into the store years ago as a customer. We became friends

This summer he showed his wall sculptures on Torstrasse. For this exhibition Julian applied the aesthetics of medical imaging onto lacquered cardboard forms. The interiors are partly covered by assemblages, partly left unfinished. The collages contain pieces from 90s Vogue magazines, fashion photography prints, and handwritten notes and gift wrapping paper from his mother's archive. The pieces speak to the blurring of reality — at the intersection of what we can physically see and what we believe.

What I didn't expect: how well his surfaces worked with some of the shirts. Different concept entirely, but the textures and color combinations found each other.
