Where A.D.Deertz is Made — Our Workshop in Toruń, Poland

Most of what you find at A.D.Deertz is made in a small workshop in Toruń, a medieval town on the Vistula river in northern Poland. I have been working with the same workshop for over 20 years — longer than many of my customers have known the brand.
The workshop is run by Kasia, who took it over from her father. There are seven seamstresses, and most of them have been making A.D.Deertz pieces for years. They know the patterns, they know the details — the way a collar should sit, how a pocket should be finished. That kind of knowledge doesn't come from a manual.
Working with a small team means production runs are small. We start with a few pieces in each size, see how they sell, and make more if the fabric allows. When the fabric is gone, that version is finished. It's not a marketing decision — it's just how we work.
I visit Toruń regularly. The relationship matters to me as much as the product. Running a small business is intense, and the only way to keep going is to work with people you trust and enjoy being with. That's what we have built over two decades.
Toruń itself is worth a visit — Gothic architecture, the old town on the river, and the birthplace of Copernicus. Not a bad place to make clothes.

The machine that makes all our jacket buttonholes, in the workshop. We believe in making clothes that last — with machines that were built to last too. This one is a Reece buttonhole machine. The Reece patent dates back to 1881, and won acclaim at exhibitions including the World's Fair of 1893 in Chicago.

If you ever find yourself in Toruń — eat at Monka. A restaurant in the old town, right next to the city wall, in a historic building. Local ingredients, beautifully served. Kasia and I always go there either for dinner or breakfast, sometimes both .
