Percuspection — Percuspection — Dressing Musicians and Instruments at Once, Sound of Distance Festival, HKW Berlin

The Sound of Distance Festival at Haus der Kulturen der Welt was curated by Jan St. Werner around a single question: if HKW were one big instrument, what would it sound like?
I was one of very few invited artists who did not make sound — invited by Jan St. Werner to design garments for the percussionists Jean-Dominique "Dodo" NKishi and Tunde Alibaba for their project Percuspection, an acoustic and performative sound walk through the magnificent building, which became the instrument itself. The garments were conceived to carry their sonic equipment and keep it accessible to them during the performance — all equipment had to fit inside, and be easily removed and reattached during the walk. Function and movement, built into the clothes.

The costumes were based on the Tapi Jacket — a shape from the A.D.Deertz collection that lends itself to exactly this kind of adaptation.
