Guangzhou, China — One Woman Enterprise Among Major Fabric Hustlers

Fabric company, Guangzhou China — A.D.Deertz fabric sourcing

While working in Bangkok I got the chance to go to Guangzhou — the main fabric hub of southern China, a short train ride from Hong Kong. There is an entire mall dedicated to fabric producers, floor after floor of textiles, trimmings and materials from across China and beyond.

It was chaotic and overwhelming. The sheer volume — hundreds of vendors, thousands of fabrics, rolls stacked to the ceiling. As a small independent designer searching for fabric for minimal production runs, being at the source felt almost absurd. Everyone around me was buying in quantities I could not imagine. But it was possible. Through the contacts I had built in Bangkok — people with knowledge of quality control and export — I could navigate the market and find what I needed. Without those connections, it would have been a different story entirely. One woman enterprise among major fabric hustlers. And it worked.
